- Support for the saboteurs that keep showing up to test you (without temptation there is no power in your choice to continue to change)
- An understanding of the mind body connection to demystify changes you need to make
1. Identify where I'm feeling stuck in my life right NOW. This will assist you to recognize where you feel limited
Self limiting thoughts are based on beliefs we have about our self. These beliefs are like binding contracts that constrict a whole, harmonious sense of our self and the world. When these beliefs are lived out through the subconscious contracts we unknowingly agree to, we feel ineffective, anxious, tired or frustrated. To reveal those beliefs we look at what is not working in our life right now. We do this in a curious manner that reveals helpful steps we can take to assist us in working towards the goals we really want. For example, if I feel I am unworthy, this is based on the belief that I am not good enough as I am, and will keep me from receiving real support and love in my life. To release this belief and turn to a whole, un-fractured sense of myself, I can start to ask for what I need in my life and learn to receive it.
2. Identify and apply changes you know to make in your life, (ie: relationships, vocation, diet, exercise/yoga program)
This is the fun part. This is the moment of truth where you claim your desires: “I want to have more energy in my life.” “I want to experience more love and support in my life.” “I want to wake up in the morning and look forward to my work”. These declarations may be in health and wellness, or only in a specific behavior you need to address (“I’m so hard on myself, I need to learn to receive”). Once the area(s) of your life are identified, then you are ready to outline the changes you know you need to make. This is where we co-create a plan that fits your personality, your personal speed or willingness, your overall obligations (changing how you eat can mean making 2 meals for the family which can be creative and change the dynamic of your meal planning) and any desired time lines (only if it supports you). As a kinesiologist, single parent, business owner, and regular exerciser/yogini, I have learned how to plan the kind of structure that supports me and look forward to helping you do the same.
3. The inspirational support to keep changing
This is where the structure comes in. To keep you changing, you will feel motivated and this will inspire you. At the same time, you will also be changing your definition of yourself. There will be resistance, temptations to continue old ways, or to skip necessary steps that you know you need to take. This is where you use your structure to gently support you. And, you do this in a way that builds on victories. This is critical. Change means you are changing. This means you honour and welcome new experiences that come from the steps you are taking. This keeps us from getting self-engrossed (intense, linear thinking, perfectionism) and will ward off discouragement. It’s hard to feel discouraged when you appreciate yourself! I will help you to support yourself and make the changes in an inspirational manner.
4. Support for the saboteurs that keep showing up to test you (without temptation there is no power in your choice to continue to change)
Saboteurs are moments of discouragement. This can be expected. When you change, your internal programming gets rewired. This is not just behavioural, but involves the nervous system, the brain and all the areas it is firing—which means all of you. By learning in a very scientific, yet simple way, the connection between thought, emotion and behavior, you will be better equipped to halt “regret” language—and learn a more heart based (intelligent) mode of living. This is a new way of operating that you will learn through very clear practice, again and again until it is a muscle you know how to flex.
5. An understanding of the mind body connection to support the changes you need to make
When you decide to make a change in your life, say, to lose body fat, or to walk everyday, this change means you will be doing things differently. It means a different way of living. This new way of living can feel like a good idea at the onset, yet may be unsupported by the habits, environment and people that are in your life now. To make lasting changes, and the adaptive period more tolerable, you need to be supported by real information that inspires you. Understanding how the body works can help you stay with the changes you need to make. For example, when I was pregnant, I had intense nausea during the day. This was really difficult because I was running my fitness business(!) To keep my body feeling good, I would go for a strong run in the forest. It helped me to pump the blood away from my intestines and into my arms and legs. I knew the pregnancy hormone relaxin was busy in my intestines and stomach region softening the intestines to move them up into my ribcage to make room for the fetus. I knew that the relaxin hormone is also non-discriminating and that it will go in to the stomach region causing nausea. So a strong run would redistribute the blood to the arms and legs, cause release of positive hormones and I would feel amazing instantly. Running was like a pill for nausea. Knowing what is going on in your body helps you to stay with the changes because you understand what the sensations are for. My role is to help you see your improvements and qualify the necessary next steps to support you. We often forget, that change can feel really difficult and our busy lives rarely offer the supportive laboratory that adaptation needs. That’s where I come in, with information and real education that allows you to feel safe, sane, supported and tune into how you need to do it for yourself.
